Paris, Baudouin frères, Levavasseur, 1827–1829. 4 volumes in 2 parts, in-8, analytical table of contents, green half-calf, smooth spine decorated with the imperial eagle, title label in red morocco (modern binding) First edition of volumes 3 and 4; volumes 1 and 2 are second editions. 6 engraved plates, including 4 portraits and 122 facsimiles of signatures. ‘These memoirs begin with the organisation of the interior of the Tuileries Palace in 1805 and are replete with anecdotes and miscellaneous information (...) in reality, these memoirs have certainly been reworked by “dye-men”, perhaps including Balzac. They should therefore be treated with caution. However, the final volume does contain useful details on the major works.” Tulard, 99. A fine copy.
