BOURGOING (Paul Charles Aimable de). Memoirs of Contemporary History. Military and Political Episodes. Paris, Dentu, 1864. In-8, IV–599 pp., table of contents, taupe half-calf, decorated ribbed spine (modern binding) First edition. ‘As French Ambassador to Copenhagen in 1800, Bourgoing’s father took him to Denmark, which provides us with a fine account of the British attack on Copenhagen in 1801. The book then turns to the Saxony of Frederick Augustus. From 1811 onwards, Paul-Charles Bourgoing (1791–1864) joined the ranks of the Grande Armée. He took part in the Russian campaign, followed by the German campaign, and helped defend Paris. It should be noted that these memoirs were written at a later date, based on a notebook of notes. Stamp: C. Stryenski. A fine copy. Fierro, 210; Tulard, 209; Bertier, 162.
