Description
[MANUSCRIPT – 1812]. Memoirs of events in Dresden during May 1812. Sl [Munich], undated (September 1824).
In-8, [62] folios, ruled, covered with large, legible handwriting (approximately 15 lines per page), 5 blank folios, a few rare erasures, green half-basane, plain, unmarked spine (contemporary binding). Significant losses of leather on the spine, damaged corners.
A fascinating account of the court held by Napoleon in Dresden from 16 to 29 May 1812, prior to his departure for Russia.
A valuable handwritten account by an eyewitness of Napoleon and Marie-Louise’s stay in Dresden (16–29 May 1812), the final gathering of European sovereigns before the Russian campaign. Describing court life, ceremonies, audiences, the key figures (Francis I, Metternich, the King of Prussia, etc.) and the atmosphere of anticipation preceding the war with great precision, it constitutes an exceptional account of this final Napoleonic congress. (Details available on request.)
Enclosed are: [2] loose handwritten folios from the late 19th century, written in English, providing a brief summary of this text.
