Description
[NAUDET (Thomas-Charles)]. [Collection of engravings]. Paris, Pierre Jean, undated (1812). Oblong folio (41 x 53 cm), 63 plates engraved by Le Beau after Naudet, numbered 1–63, green half-basane with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, title page. Upper joint completely split; corners, edges and caps rubbed; a tear along the side of plate 35; foxing. A rare collection of engravings celebrating the Napoleonic epic, from Toulon and the Italian Campaign to the early stages of the Russian Campaign (with the exception of two plates illustrating the early days of the Revolution). Most were produced from drawings by Thomas-Charles Naudet (1773–1810), except, of course, for the engravings from 1811–1812. The son of a print dealer, he became an engraver himself and trained under Hubert Robert. Early in his career, he produced caricatures and fashion drawings, followed by historical scenes from the Revolution and the Empire. (A detailed list of plates is available on request.)
