Description
[POLAND–DANZIG] – DOHNA-SCHLOBITTEN (Friedrich-Ferdinand-Alexander, Count von). 4 P.A.S. concerning the latest provisions regarding Danzig. Elbing, 1807.
Folio, accompanied by their analytical bulletin in the Soult archives; slight water stains at the bottom.
Important notes from Count Dohna to Marshal Soult, Governor of Old Prussia and responsible for the implementation of the Treaty of Tilsit, concerning Article 19 of the Treaty, relating to the territory of Danzig. The tone of the discussions is shown to be acrimonious, with Count Dohna demanding all guarantees and claims on behalf of Prussia (Details on request.)
A senior Prussian official, Count Friedrich Alexander zu Dohna-Schlobitten (1771–1831) played a major role in the reorganisation of Prussia following the defeats at Jena and Auerstädt. As the negotiator of the follow-up to the Treaty of Tilsit with Marshal Soult, he went on to become First Chancellor (1808–1810) and a champion of the Landwehr; he was also the owner of Finkenstein Castle, where Napoleon established his headquarters during the Polish campaign of 1807.
