Paris, 1816–1827. 5 volumes in a sturdy in-8 format, plum-coloured half-basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, speckled edges (contemporary binding). Traces of a label on the spine. A fine copy. At the dawn of the Restoration, the key question in Germany was which power (Austria, Prussia or Russia) would exercise hegemony over the new Germanic mosaic – a landscape that, whilst certainly simplified, remained complex enough to resist the modernisation of public life.
