In-8, [4]-568-II pp., [1] f., marine half-goatskin, smooth spine with longitudinal decoration (contemporary binding). A fine copy. First edition of this essay on the philosophy of history, at the confluence of the two major schools of thought—Catholic and democratic—which characterised Buchez (1796–1865). Written after his break with the Saint-Simonian school, this text rejects the vague pantheism that underpinned Saint-Simon’s doctrine.
