Translated from the English. London, Bew, 1776. 12mo, calfskin, plain spine with decoration (pastiche binding). Translation of the memoirs of this Danish queen with a tragic fate. Portrait of Caroline Mathilde on the frontispiece. Married to Christian VII of Denmark, a weak and dissolute prince, Caroline Mathilde (1751–1775) had an affair with the king’s prime minister and favourite, Struensée, and was imprisoned and put on trial. The marriage was annulled and she was confined to Celle Castle in Hanover. She died three years later of smallpox at the age of 24. A fine copy.
