Description
COURIER (Paul-Louis). Pamphlets. Paris, 1821–1823.
6 pieces in one volume, 8vo, multiple pagination, light-coloured half-calf, plain spine decorated with gilt fillets (modern binding). A fine copy.
An interesting collection, focusing on the final years of the famous writer, and bringing together several pamphlets whose common theme is opposition to the reactionary measures inspired by the political climate of the Restoration, particularly against the acquisition of the Château de Chambord through a national subscription to present it to the young Duke of Bordeaux (‘The Child of the Miracle’), whilst the estate, which had passed into Berthier’s estate in 1815, was being put up for sale by his widow. (Details of the documents available on request.)
A copy belonging to François Duris-Dufresne (1769–1837), who served as a Liberal Member of Parliament for the Indre from 1827 until his death, bearing his wet signature in several places.
