GIRARDIN (Émile de). *Le Condamné du 6 mars*. Paris, Michel Lévy frères, 1868. In-8, XVI–717 pp., green half-shagreen, decorated ribbed spine (contemporary binding) First edition. An account of the disputes between the author, Émile de Girardin, and the government in 1867 following an article published in *La Liberté*, which led to his being fined 5,000 francs. Autograph dedication signed on the half-title page: ‘To the Marquis de La Valette, with sincere friendship. E. Girardin. ” Charles de La Valette (1806–1881) served as Minister of the Interior from 28 March 1865 to 13 November 1867, and subsequently as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 17 December 1868 to 17 July 1869. The spine is worn but it is a good copy.
