A Treasury of Admirable and Memorable Stories, collected and extracted from various authors from different regions; such as the History of the Hebrews; the History of the Greeks; the History of the Romans, etc. By Mr de St. M*****. Manuscript in-4 (18 x 22 cm) comprising (1)-519 pp., 23 lines per page, red morocco, decorated ribbed spine, green morocco title label, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with gilt fleurons in the corners, decorated cuts and interior borders, gilt edges (18th-century binding) Unpublished collection of ancient and sacred history dated 1609–1618 (title and colophon), compiled and copied around 1700. The title, calligraphied in red and black, imitates Simon Goulart’s collection published in 1600–1610, *Trésor des histoires admirables et mémorables de nostre temps recueillies de plusieurs auteurs*. Chapters: Opinions of Ancient Peoples; On Gymnastics; The Principal Revolutions of the Jewish People; On Laws; On the Foundation of Rome and Romulus; On the Carthaginians up to their Alliance with Xerxes, etc. Two subsequent title pages have been bound after the title page, at the beginning of the volume. A very fine copy, carefully calligraphed in brown ink on period red morocco leather, from the library of the ‘V[icom]tess d’Aboville ’ (handwritten note without an ex-libris opposite the title page), possibly Laure Charlotte Noémie Bertrand de Rivière, wife of Auguste-Ernest, Viscount d’Aboville (1819–1902), mayor of Glux-en-Glenne (Nièvre) from 1858 to 1861 and subsequently Member of Parliament for the Loiret from February 1871 to March 1871.
