Description
[The Marriage of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse]. [The King and Queen’s Entry into the City of Paris in 1660]. Paris, Loyson, 1660. 18 pieces bound in 1 vol. in-4, brown sheepskin, decorated ribbed spine (contemporary binding) A rare collection of works in verse and prose relating to the marriage of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse, Infanta of Spain, and to their solemn entry into Paris, on 26 August 1660, all published by Jean-Baptiste Loyson in 1660, the majority of which were written by François Colletet (1628–1680). Ruggieri (Catalogue, 490), referring to a similar collection of sixteen pieces (most of which are also found in our copy), considers that ‘it would be impossible to reproduce’. (Detailed list of pieces available on request.) Handwritten ‘ex dono’ inscription and note in period ink at the beginning and end of the volume: ‘For Monsieur le Président Mathoud and his dear and much-loved wife, 1686’. Provenance: Saint-Stanislas Jesuit House (Aix-en-Provence, active from 1826 to 1892) with the bookplate ‘Domus Sancti Stanislai, Bibliotheca artium’; an oval stamp on the title page reading ‘Domus Lugdunensis Soc. Jesu’; an old handwritten bookplate (Loanes?) on a few title pages. Two 19th-century handwritten folios (title page and table of contents) bound at the top of the volume. Some pages are foxed or stained. (Lacombe, 2918–2933; Cioranescu, 19962; Ruggieri, 490; Bourgeois and André, 3846.)
