Description
[July Monarchy]. Political Trials [Collection]. Paris, 1833–1834.
8 pieces in one vol. in-8, fawn half-basane, plain spine with decoration, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Leather missing from one upper joint, foxing.
An important collection of eight political trials printed during the July Monarchy (1833–1834), bearing witness to the judicial repression directed against the Republicans, the Society for Human Rights and the opposition press. It brings together the proceedings, pleadings, closing arguments and judgements of the major cases of the period, including the alleged assassination attempt against Louis-Philippe, the prosecutions against *La Tribune*, *Le Propagateur du Pas-de-Calais* or *Le Patriote de la Côte-d’Or*, as well as the famous trial of the twenty-seven. The numerous acquittals handed down by the Assize Courts illustrate the limitations of the regime’s repressive policies and make this collection a valuable record of the political and legal struggles of the early years of the July Monarchy.
