Small 8vo, (8)-60-(2) pp. Two works bound together in one small 8vo volume, olive morocco, plain decorated spine, laurel-wreathed cartouche within a double gilt border on the covers (contemporary binding) Two very rare works in first edition by the Poitou poet Antoine de Nervèze. Provenance: the library of the jurist Victor Foucher (1802–1866), bearing his armorial bookplate; appointed Master of Requests in extraordinary service in 1840, this close associate of Napoleon III incurred the wrath of his illustrious brother-in-law, Victor Hugo. Old handwritten bookplates on the title page reading ‘Claude Gaillardon’ and ‘B. Maria de Capia’, accompanied by a bibliographical note opposite; ‘Pierre Lajarrige’ stamp; heraldic bookplate reading ‘G. de C. Viva l’ora del leggere’. A good copy.
