A collection of the various edicts establishing the offices of Governors; Lieutenants of the King, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Aldermen, Consuls, Jurats, Capitouls, Assessors, Secretaries to the Registrars of the Town Halls, and their Auditors, Former Mitriennaux and Alternate Mitriennaux, and those of the King’s Advocates and Procurators of the said Town Halls, etc. Setting out the Rights, Duties, Privileges, Exemptions, Ranks, Seats of Honour and Prerogatives attributed to the said Offices. With the Edict of November 1733 re-establishing them, and the Declaration and Regulations of 20 and 29 December of that year. Paris: published by the Widow Saugrain and Pierre Prault, 1734. In-4, calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, title label in red morocco, triple blind-stamped border on the covers (contemporary binding) A chronological collection of 22 edicts and rulings of the King’s Council of State relating to the offices of governor, councillor, mayor, lawyer, etc., issued at Versailles and Fontainebleau between 1690 and 1750 and printed between 1733 and 1752, including three in the very year of their presentation. The title page bound at the front of the volume lists only the first 15 documents; the titles of the next 3 documents are added by hand, and the last 4 documents are not listed. A few handwritten marginal notes in brown ink.
