André, VIII, 8454: “Born in Verdun, settled in Leiden, then in Brussels and Leuven, the author wrote this work to expose the miseries of war. Only his assessments of French figures may be of interest: whilst Mazarin is praised, Richelieu is a ‘Tiberius’ who made the French realise ‘that he was a fox’, the ‘worthy instrument of bloody intrigues and the principal driving force behind this furious dance that has been performed for so long amongst Christians’.”
