In-8, XXX, (2), 270 pp. Green half-shagreen, ribbed spine with thread-bound ridges, title label, covers preserved with fictitious reference to a fourth edition (Petitbled, bound in Rouen). Spine sun-faded. First edition of this scathing pamphlet against the government of Louis-Philippe. Title vignette and 15 wood-engraved end-piece illustrations, including 2 after Grandville, depicting the King in the form of a pear. Numerous foxing spots. The author, a notary convicted of murdering his wife, was executed by beheading in Bourg in 1839, despite the passionate defence mounted by Balzac, Lamartine and Gavarni.
