Prisons – RASPAIL (François-Vincent). Prison Reform. Letters on the Prisons of Paris. By F.-V. Raspail. Paris, Tamisey and Champion, 1839. 2 tomes in 2 vols., in-8, paperback, (4)-403 pp.; XIV-(2)-448 pp., printed covers. First edition. Most of these letters first appeared as articles in *Le Réformateur*. In them, Raspail deals at times with political subjects, at other times with his personal experiences during his periods of imprisonment; finally, he returns to the theme so dear to his heart: the replacement of prison sentences with the rehabilitation of the convicted person. The foreword (pp. I–XIII), which appears in some copies, is not present in Volume I. The front cover of Volume II is stained and there is a corner loss on the back cover. Copy signed by the author.
