Letters and State Memoirs of Kings, Princes, Ambassadors and other Ministers during the reigns of Francis I, Henry II and Francis II, containing the correspondence of these kings and the princes of Europe against the machinations of Charles V; primarily in Constantinople with the Sublime Porte; in England, with Henry VIII; in Germany, with the princes of the Empire; in Italy, with the Pope and the Venetians. And in Italy alone, the intrigues of the four conclaves, and the influence our kings wielded there; together with various manoeuvres concerning Naples, Genoa and Siena. The causes of the War of Parma, and other details unknown in our histories. Memoirs of the Councillor of State Guillaume Ribier (Blois, 1578–1663), published posthumously by his nephew Michel Belot. A magistrate at the Presidium of Blois and a deputy for the Third Estate at the Estates General of 1614, Guillaume Ribier (1578–1663) distinguished himself through his advocacy for tax reduction. A learned historian, he compiled a substantial collection of documents relating to the reigns of François I, Henri II and François II, which was published posthumously. Provenance: the library of King Louis-Philippe at the Château de Neuilly (small full-length coat of arms and ex-libris stamp on each title page). A fine copy.
