Description
United Kingdom – [MANUSCRIPT] – TASCHER DE LA PAGERIE (Stéphanie de). Memoirs. Sl, 1862.
In-12, 266 pp., plum-coloured shagreen, double gilt fillet framing the covers, central crowned ‘S’, roulette on the edges, interior roulette, gilt edges, clasp with its preserved key (contemporary binding).
Manuscript entirely handwritten in brown ink by Countess Tascher de La Pagerie (1814–1905). Unpublished diary of the London stay of Stéphanie Tascher de La Pagerie (1814–1905), cousin of Empress Joséphine and a close associate of the Tuileries court, undertaken on the occasion of the 1862 Great Exhibition. Combining descriptions of London, accounts of her visits, portraits of the British aristocracy and often sharp observations on English customs, this lively account offers a valuable insight into Franco-British relations during the Second Empire. (Details on request.)
