Description
VARILLAS (Antoine). Anecdotes of Florence, or the Secret History of the House of Medici. The Hague, Leers, 1687. In-12, grained calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, gilt roundel on the edges. Commissioned from Varillas, historiographer to the Duke of Orléans, to extol the virtues of the Medici, this history ultimately displeased the king and remained unfinished. (Quérard X -54.) A few water stains, otherwise a fine copy.
