ASPECT (d'). History of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis. Paris, published by La Veuve Duchesne, 1780. 3 vols. in-8, marbled fawn sheepskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fleurons, red edges (contemporary binding). Traces of damp on the covers and a few scuffs, worn corners; nevertheless a fine copy. Contains, at the end of Volume I, an 8-page subscription notice describing this work. Saffroy, I, 6109: “Work left unfinished: the first two volumes relate to the army (promotions from 1693 to 1700 and a list of knights appointed from 1701 to 1715), the third to the navy, but the promotions cease in 1703.”
