Description
BEAUMONT (P.F.). Governors, Royal Lieutenants, Provosts of the Merchants, Aldermen, Procurators, Crown Counsel, Clerks, Receivers, Councillors and Quartiniers of the City of Paris. Paris, [1735–1743].
Folio, red morocco, plain spine decorated with fleurs-de-lis, wide gilt border on the covers, coat of arms in the centre, gilt edges (contemporary binding).
A very fine armorial of the City of Paris, entirely engraved, with a frontispiece title page and 119 plates featuring multiple coats of arms, including 5 title pages and 4 fold-out plates. In addition, 16 unnumbered plates feature blazons left blank to allow for possible future additions.
Generally attributed to the engraver of the plates, Pierre François Beaumont, the work is, according to Guigard, by the engraver and publisher Jacques Chevillard the Younger. A fine copy in contemporary morocco leather, with unidentified coats of arms. Skilful restoration to the binding.
