DUBUISSON (Pierre Paul) & GASTELIER de La TOUR (Denis François). Armorial of the principal houses and families of the kingdom, particularly those of Paris and the Île-de-France. Containing the coats of arms of princes, lords, senior officers of the Crown and of the King’s Household, those of the sovereign courts, etc., with explanations of the blazons – A work enriched with nearly four thousand coats of arms engraved in intaglio. 2 volumes bound together as 1 in-12 volume, red morocco, richly decorated ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with spandrel motifs, gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges (contemporary binding).
Entirely engraved work: title-frontispiece engraved by Le Mire, 10 engraved pages depicting the coats of arms of prominent figures from the reign of Louis XV in allegorical settings, and 180 double-sided engraved plates (containing 1,620 coats of arms). First edition.
This is a directory of families not only originating from the Île-de-France region but also settled there, which considerably broadens its scope; it is the only specialised work we have on the Île-de-France region. (Saffroy II -24130.)
