Description
[THE COMPASS-MAKER OF COURTIVRON], [THÉSUT OF VERREY], [BROSSES OF TOURNAY]. Catalogues and coats of arms of the gentry who attended the Estates General of the Duchy of Burgundy, from the year 1548 to the year 1682, taken from the registers of the Chamber of the Nobility. Dijon, Jean-François Durand, 1760.
Folio, engraved title page, [1] folio, 79 pp., 77 pp., 36 plates of coats of arms and 3 sheets of additions (2 loose), fawn sheepskin, ribbed spine, red edges (contemporary binding). Water-stain on the margins of some leaves, more pronounced on plates 27 and 28. A few minor scuffs on the covers.
“This fine work was compiled from the archives of the Chamber of the Nobility of Burgundy. It is a book of moderate importance but one which deserves its place amongst Burgundian books.” Saffroy, II, 18968.
The 36 plates of coats of arms are engraved with a burin; the allegorical frontispiece is engraved with a burin by Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, after Cochin the Younger; and there is an unsigned engraved banner.
Enclosed are two letters from the director of the *Armorial de la Noblesse de France* dated 1856 and 1857, concerning articles on the Rambuteau families.
