BOURGOIN DE VILLEFORE (Joseph François). The Life of the Duchess of Longueville. Undated, place unknown, 1738. 2 volumes bound together as a single in-12 volume, marbled calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, gilded coat of arms in the centre of the covers, gilded fillet on the edges (contemporary binding). Posthumous first edition of this first biography of the Duchess of Longueville (1619–1679), sister of the Grand Condé, married to the Duke of Longueville, Henry d’Orléans, and heroine of the Fronde. A fine copy bearing the combined arms of Madeleine Angélique de Neufville de Villeroy, Duchess of Boufflers, future Marshal of Luxembourg.
