Description
[EUGÈNE de BEAUHARNAIS]. Tables comparing the new and old measures and the new and old weights of the Italian Republic, published by order of the government, in accordance with Article XIII of the Law of 27 October 1803, Year II. Milan, Veladini National Printing House, 1803–1809–1811.
3 folio volumes, XVI-III to VI, (4) pp., 346 pp., 1 f. of errata, XXII-336 pp. and (8) pp., 108 pp., red morocco, plain decorated spine, gilt scrolls framing the covers, coat of arms in the centre, gilt edges, gilt scrolls on the inside edges and on the edges of the covers, chamois-coloured endpapers (contemporary binding). A minor, insignificant scratch on the spine of volume 2.
A very fine copy bearing the coat of arms of Prince Eugène de Beauharnais (1781–1824), Napoleon’s adopted son and Viceroy of Italy.
A printed page in volumes 1 and 3 indicating that these volumes belong to the private library of H.I.H. Eugenio Napoleone.
An important work which sets out, with tables, the Italian system of weights and measures.
Works bearing Eugène’s coat of arms are extremely rare. More commonly found is the initials ‘EA’, which appear on books that belonged to him after his marriage to Augusta Amalia of Bavaria (1806) and were often stamped after the Empire.
