Description
SALVIEN. The works of Salvien, priest of Marseille, comprising his letters and treatises. Paris: Delespine, 1734. In-12, grained calfskin, ribbed spine, gilt title, coat of arms at the tail. Minor wear to the corners and the upper cap, but a fine copy bearing the coat of arms of Germain-Louis, Lord of GROSBOIS (1685–1759). He served successively as a councillor of the Grand Council in 1706, Master of Requests in 1711, Advocate General at the Parliament of Paris in 1715, President of the Mortier in 1718, Keeper of the Seals of France, Minister and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in 1727, and Secretary and Commander of the King’s Orders in 1736. He left behind a very fine library and collections of prints, paintings and other works of art. (O.H.R. 1116, stamp no. 1.)
