[PERIODICAL]. Gazette de France. Paris, Imprimerie de la Gazette de France, 1762–1777. 1,581 (out of 1,670) issues in 13 quarto volumes, in marbled or grained fawn calf, spines with decorated raised bands, red title and volume number labels, red edges [most volumes]; grained vellum, smooth spine, cream title page, edges speckled with red [volume III covering the years 1765–66] (contemporary bindings). Volume III is loose, one lower joint is split, and the edges are rubbed. A collection of fifteen almost complete years of this venerable official organ of the monarchical government, covering the final years of the reign of Louis XV and the early years of that of his grandson (including the outbreak of the American uprising). Volumes X and XIII bear the lithographed ex-libris vignette of the Le Havre merchant Rémi-Valdemar Chardey (1813–1900), whose collections were sold in 1877, and who is best known for his collection of maps, part of which was acquired from Jean-Baptiste Eyriès.
