Description
ULBACH (Louis). *La Cloche*. By Ferragus. Complete collection. Paris, Imp. Dubuisson, 1868–1869. 71 instalments in 7 vols. in-16, green half-shagreen, spined and ribbed (contemporary binding) Complete collection. A weekly journal written entirely by Louis Ulbach under the pseudonym Ferragus. Published in the same format as *La Lanterne*, *La Cloche* set itself the aim of continuing the campaign against the Empire waged by Rochefort’s journal, whilst Rochefort himself was forced into exile in Belgium. In March 1869, Ulbach was brought before the Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of 1,000 francs. On 18 December, *La Cloche hebdomadaire* ceased publication as a weekly to become a daily. A fine copy.
