Description
GLATIGNY (Albert). *La sultane Rozréa*, a ballad translated from Lord Byron by Exupère Pinemol, a pupil at the minor seminary of La Fère. Paris, 1838 [presumably 1878].
Manuscript in 12° format (11.5 x 17 cm), comprising 9 folios, lemon-coloured morocco, ribbed spine, gilt interior lace, white vellum endpapers and lining, edges gilt on guards (Jansenist binding from the last third of the 19th century, signed R. Petit).
A charming and rare little erotic manuscript on vellum, finely calligraphed in black, blue and red ink, and highlighted with gold leaf. It is adorned with eight small figures drawn in ink, copied from the 1870 Paris edition. The text is framed in gold and red ink and highlighted with gold leaf.
A Parnassian poet and playwright, Glatigny (1839–1873) was an actor and, for a time, a proofreader for Poulet-Malassis.
A very fine copy. A small stain on the lower spine extending slightly onto the covers, and a small tear also at the bottom of the spine.
