[LE SUIRE (Rob. Mart.)]. Confessions of Rabelais, published and adapted into modern French by the author of *L’Aventurier français*. Paris, Louis, Year V – 1797. In-18, brown half-maroquin with corner pieces, ribbed spine with decoration, gilt fillet, gilt head (mid-19th-century binding). An apocryphal work, published in the collection ‘Confessions of Famous Men of France Written by Themselves’. Under the guise of modernising a purported ancient manuscript, the author composes a satirical narrative in which he attributes to Rabelais irreverent reflections on religion, monks, doctors, scholars and the mores of his time.
