Illustrated with a full-length portrait drawn by Charlet, a photograph based on the marble bust by M. Geoffroy-Dechaume, and eight engravings based on works by d’Aubigny, Sandoz and Wattier, executed by Durond, Massart, Lalaisse, Nargeaot and Ruhierre. – II. Béranger’s Last Songs, from 1834 to 1851. With a letter and a preface by the author. [Illustrated with 14 drawings by A. de Lemud, engraved on steel by Messrs Balin, Brunet, Colin, Darodes, Doherty, Goutières, Massart, Noret, Lalaisse, Nargeaot and Pelée.] Paris, Perrotin, 1860–1857. 2 volumes in-8, brown half-shagreen, ribbed spine, gilt title (contemporary binding). A few minor scuffs. Lacks the full-length portrait listed on the title page of the first volume, but is complete with the frontispiece photograph and the 8 separate engravings for ‘Ma Biographie’. Complete with all 14 separate illustrations for the ‘Dernières Chansons’. (Vicaire I, 415 (for the original 1857 edition; Brivois, pp. 81, 82, 83 and 84.) A few scattered foxing spots. A fine copy enriched with 12 autograph letters or notes signed by Béranger (c. 1853–1854) addressed to the poetess Augustine-Malvina Blanchecotte (1830–1897), a working-class poet and admirer of Lamartine and Béranger; she frequented Louise Colet’s salon and saw the second edition of her collection *Rêves et réalités* enhanced with a tribute by Lamartine in 1856; she contributed to *La Revue de France* and eked out a living by giving private lessons, living in wretched conditions (as evidenced by some of Béranger’s letters).
