Anonymous. Instructions and Practices on the Way of the Cross. Avignon, L. Aubanel; Tulle, Descaich, 1828. In-12, root-cut sheepskin, smooth spine with decoration, green Empire-style title label (contemporary binding). Some age-related wear and restoration to the binding. The volume is illustrated with 40 woodcuts within the text and as full-page plates. An interesting autographed ex-dono note from Anatole France, presenting a volume from his own mother’s library to his mistress Léontine Arman de Caillavet: “From my mother. Anatole France to Mrs Arman. 27 May 1888.” Bookplates of Léontine Arman de Caillavet and Simone André Maurois at the end of the book. A fine provenance, both moving and intriguing for a devotional work!
