POUGENS (Marie-Charles-Joseph de). Jocko. Preceded by an introduction by Anatole FRANCE. Paris, Charavay, 1881. In-12, royal blue half-shagreen, spine with four raised bands, gilt head, illustrated covers preserved (G. Gobillot). Printed in a run of 392 copies. Etched frontispiece by Frédéric Régamey. (Vicaire VI-792.) A charming Rococo tale about this female orangutan from the island of Ceylon, endowed with “French graces”. Unpublished preface by Anatole France, who inscribed this precious handwritten copy on the half-title page: ‘To my dear and illustrious master Théodore de BANVILLE, the publisher of this trifle, Anatole France’.
