Description
MALLARMÉ (Stéphane). *A Roll of the Dice Will Never Abolish Chance*. Paris, NRF – Gallimard, 1914. Quarto, paperback, printed cover with inlay (soiled). Posthumous first edition. A copy from the regular print run, unnumbered (following a limited edition of 90 copies). This poem was first published in the journal *Cosmopolis* in 1897. Mallarmé had tried unsuccessfully to have it published in a format that would allow for a typographical layout in keeping with the poem’s rhythm.
