In-8 red calfskin, gilt fillet and two horizontal blind-stamped fillets running across the centre of the covers and spine, title and names of the author and artist in gilt lettering on the front cover, plain spine with three gilt stars on either side of the bands, cream moiré endpapers, original cover preserved, in a half-red calfskin slipcase with flaps and a box with raised edges, gilt head. First edition illustrated with 10 chiselled engravings by J. E. Laboureur. Limited edition of 250 copies; the artist’s unique copy containing a special set of engravings (on untrimmed paper) enriched with 8 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS by J. E. Laboureur, signed. 2 bookplates by the bibliophile Robert Mallet, one of which is printed on Chinese paper and numbered 8/12. Spine of the slipcase sun-faded, with slight scattered foxing; otherwise a very fine artist’s copy.
