Large 8vo (16.5 x 26.4 cm) comprising 1 blank folio, 1 half-title page, 1 illustrated title page in two colours (red), 1 dedication folio, 267-(4) pp. Fawn half-maroquin with corners, gilt headband, gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated with a gilt floral design, hinges, illustrated cover, including spine, preserved, untrimmed (Devauchelle). First illustrated edition, first print run of the in-text and out-of-text illustrations by René Lelong. One of the 246 reprinted copies, this one being one of the 40 on laid paper including an original coloured drawing mounted at the front; the colophon mentions a separate print run of woodcuts on China paper, which is not included here. Part of the Illustrated Complete Works of Guy de Maupassant. A fine copy, elegantly bound by Devauchelle.
