Large 8vo (26.4 x 16.6 cm), paperback, colour-illustrated cover with raised lettering, untrimmed, in a cardboard slipcase with flaps, spine decorated with title label and date at the bottom. First-imprint copy, one of 10 printed on Japanese paper (no. 2). Illustrations by L. VALLET. This volume forms part of the Illustrated Complete Works of Maupassant published by Ollendorff between 1901 and 1904: 29 in-12 volumes, to be supplemented by a thirtieth (Misti) in 1912. These volumes had a limited first edition (Chine, Japon, Vélin) in a reissued large in-8 format. Ex libris by Jacques Crépineau.
