Large 8vo (26.5 x 17 cm), paperback, illustrated colour cover with raised edges, untrimmed. First edition, one of 10 printed on Japanese paper (no. 8). Illustrations by CORTAZZO, woodcuts by G. LEMOINE. This volume forms part of the Illustrated Complete Works of Maupassant published by Ollendorff between 1901 and 1904: 29 in-12 volumes, to be supplemented by a thirtieth (Misti) in 1912. These volumes were produced in a limited first edition (Chine, Japon, Vélin) in a re-set large in-8 format. Small stains on the front cover. Untrimmed copy. Engraved bookplate by Noël Cordon.
