Paris, Conquet, 1883. 2 volumes, small quarto, dark green half-maroquin with corner pieces, spine with richly decorated raised bands, gilt fillet on the covers, gilt headpieces, covers and spine preserved (Champs-Stroobants). Spine sun-faded. 2 title vignettes (Albert & Mlle de Maupin) etched by Champollion after Louis Leloir, 1 portrait of Théophile Gautier etched by Burney after Celestin Nanteuil as a frontispiece, a delivery cover (in 2 states) as a frontispiece to Volume II, and 17 large compositions by Toudouze etched by Champollion after E. TOUDOUZE. Limited edition of 500 copies; no. 228 of 350 on vellum. A very fine copy enriched with 4 rejected plates sold separately, bound at the end of the volume with a separate title page (Essays for the Illustration of Mademoiselle de Maupin) and the bookbinder’s note.
