WALCOT (William) & FLAUBERT (Gustave). Salammbô. Paris, Devambez, 1926. In-4, cream morocco, decorated on the front cover with a lyre in a mosaic of light beige morocco, dark beige and dark grey, and gilt fillets; smooth spine bearing the title in gilt drop-cap letters; vellum endpapers and half-linings, silver-edged; cover and spine preserved; in a slipcase and box (Creuzevault). 22 original etchings drawn and engraved by William Walcot, including a frontispiece and 4 plates outside the text. Printed in an edition of 200 copies (+37 hors-commerce); no. 35 of 50 on Imperial Japan paper, containing two states of the illustrations, one of which includes notes, and enriched with a superb AUTOGRAPH SIGNED LETTER by G. FLAUBERT, containing numerous vivid impressions of the journey during which he gathered his visions of landscapes and drew his inspiration and source material for writing *Salammbô*: 4 pp. in-8, undated, unsigned (“Saturday 8th”), addressed to his friend Ernest Feydeau. A superb copy!
