Description
ARCLAIS de MONTAMY (Didier François). A Treatise on Colours for Painting on Enamel and Porcelain, preceded by *The Art of Painting on Enamel*. Paris, Cavelier, 1765.
In-12, marbled calfskin, decorated ribbed spine (contemporary binding, worn).
A posthumous work, published by Diderot. The author, who served the Duke of Orléans and was appointed his Chief Steward, was a practitioner of mathematics, experimental physics and chemistry. The preceding *Art of Painting* was produced under the supervision of Mr Durand, painter to the Duke of Orléans and ‘tutor’ to Mr de Montamy.
Didier-François d’Arclais de Montamy had been a friend of Diderot’s since at least 1755. In 1765, it was Diderot who published this *Treatise on Colours for Enamel and Porcelain Painting*.
