From the Illustrated Collection of Great Voyages to America in the 16th Century. - A marvellous yet true account of the manners and customs of the natives of Virginia (in 1585), originally written in English by Thomas HARIOT. Chalcographic illustrations by Théodore de BRY, based on sketches drawn from life by John WITH (…). Reproduction of Th. De Bry’s work, notably the 23 plates by John With, in black and white, with text in French. - Of three voyages to Florida. One under Jean RIBAUT, in 1562; the second under René de LAUDONNIERE, in 1564; the third under Dominique de GOURGUES, in 1567. Engravings by Théodore de BRY, based on drawings by Jacques le MOYNE, who witnessed everything first-hand. Reproduction of Th. De Bry’s work, notably the 42 full-page black-and-white plates by Le Moyne, with the French text opposite. A fine copy, no. 72 of 100 on Holland van Gelder paper.
