Description
Marine – BOURSAINT (Pierre-Louis). Private correspondence. A respectful tribute to his memory. Paris, A. Everat’s Printing Works, 1834. In-8, 416 pp., glazed blue half-calf, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fleurons (contemporary binding). First edition, not for general sale, printed in a run of 200 numbered copies, signed by the publisher. Portrait on the frontispiece and two facsimiles. (Polak, no. 1159). Pierre-Louis Boursaint (1781–1833), a native of Saint-Malo, began his career as a novice helmsman and went on to become a Councillor of State and a member of the Council of the Admiralty. He left behind a collection of letters and a large number of writings on the navy and its organisation, edited by his successor at the Ministry of the Navy and the Colonies, Claude-François Blanchard. Slight foxing. Also included, by the same author and in an identical binding: Miscellaneous Writings; collected and published by Mr Blanchard. Paris, Imprimerie de Bourgogne et Martinet, 1837. In-8, [2] ff. – 383 pp. (Polak, no. 1160). Slight water-stain on the margins. Library label at the foot of the spines. A fine copy.
