Large 8vo (25 x 16.2 cm), comprising 3 unnumbered folios, VI-327 pp., paperback, colour-illustrated cover with gilded lettering, modern slipcase and cover. First edition, one of the 25 special copies on Japanese paper, including an additional set of etchings on Holland paper. The illustrations comprise 2 etchings engraved by Lefort after Lossow, 3 colour plates, 45 full-page black-and-white reproductions and numerous drawings within the text. Spine restored and re-glued; foxing on the endpapers and frontispiece; otherwise a fine, uncut copy of this study by one of the finest historians and iconologists of fashion.
