Description
BASSANVILLE (Anaïs de). The Adventures of a Pin, or Three Centuries of French History. Paris, Librairie de l’enfance & de la jeunesse, E. Ducrocq, [c. 1850]. In-8, XI Paris, 1 blank page, 320 pp., brown half-shagreen, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fillets, blind-stamped and dotted decoration, violet shagreened percaline covers with blind-stamped decoration, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A charming volume illustrated with a frontispiece and eleven lithographic engravings in bistre, depicting costumes from the Renaissance to the 18th century. Anaïs de Bassanville (1803–1884), known as the ‘Countess of Bassanville’, a journalist during the July Monarchy, was a keen observer of the salons during the Second Empire. Spine sun-faded, minor scuffs, slight foxing; otherwise a fine copy.
