In-12, XXXV–527 pp. Red half-maroquin, ribbed spine, author’s name, title and date in gold, red head, partially untrimmed (Petitot). Scattered foxing. First edition of the French translation of this richly illustrated English work. The London perfumer Septimus Piesse (1820–1882) pioneered the concept of ‘notes’ in perfumery, a concept still in use today. A very fine copy.
