Description
Perfume – SANSOT (Edward). Essay on Perfumes. Paris, Chiberre; Nice, Modern-Studio, [1922]. Small 12mo (142 x 94 mm), 100 pp. Bradel binding in brown cross-hatched paper, covers in paper with a wavy pattern in shades of pink, orange and yellow, title label in orange shagreen, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (V. Fonlupt). First edition of this rare treatise on perfumes, offering physiological, historical and technical considerations alike. A man of letters, publicist and publisher, Edward Sansot (Aignan, 1864–Nice, 1926) had already included Charles Regismanset’s *Philosophie des parfums* in his ‘Scripta brevia’ collection fifteen years earlier. This volume belongs to the ‘petite bibliothèque des parfums’ and was printed with scented ink (amber-scented) by Établissements Gattefossé et Cie of Lyon. The print run was announced as 37 copies; this one is on vellum paper, uncoloured. Only four copies are listed by the CCfr. A fine copy.
