Description
Poitou – BILY-BROSSARD (Jeanne). Women’s headdresses and costumes of Poitou. Niort, Soulisse-Martin, 1952. In-8 (22.5 x 18 cm), 137 pp., 4 unnumbered pages, paperback, illustrated cover. First edition, one of 500 numbered copies. The book is illustrated with 8 end-piece engravings depicting headdresses and 15 plates reproducing the author’s miniatures, including 2 in colour. These miniatures, which were exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1931 and 1951, depict bust portraits of women from the Poitou region. Preface by Gisèle d’Assailly (1904–1969), a woman of letters and journalist who served as president of Éditions Julliard from 1962 to 1964. Autographed by the author. Jeanne Bily-Brossard (1898–1983) was a painter specialising in miniatures and pastels. In 1963, she was awarded the Verdaguer Prize by the Institut de France. She served as curator of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Niort until 1977. A few scattered foxing spots; otherwise a very good copy.
